it’s next week already

When Megan was about eight, I used the “time flies” line on her. She kindly informed me that it does indeed–because each passing year becomes a smaller percentage of your life. Hmmph. Thanks, kid.

There’s good news on the time business: we’re quickly winging our way toward spring (except for you poor people in the giant blizzard zone. I’m so sorry.) It’s only January, and I’ve already started worrying about that point in the summer when best laid plans have gotten past me–though it may be a bit early to start pulling my own tail.

Good things are just getting started. I love the surprises that come with each new gardening season–all the plants I’ve forgotten about. Not to mention all the new ones still to come.

We’re testing ordering thru plant lust in baby steps. So far, so good. A package with two perfectly secured plants arrived from Gossler Farms.

I ordered a Lobelia tupa as well, and it came from a second nursery, Secret Garden Growers. Mister approved right away.

Paul Bonine of Xera Plants recommended this cute little creeping shrub. (By the way, Paul says winter is over around these parts, and why wouldn’t I believe him?) I wish I could remember the name. This year, I’m going to religiously record plant names & planting locations. I swear.

I can’t resist showing your these self sowing ferns–again and again. They’re always such a luscious surprise.

What about your garden? How do you know what’s where when it’s hiding underground?

I’ve got to get better at this, though I do appreciate the surprise of plants reappearing. It’d probably be better, however, if I didn’t make the discoveries by digging thru them. I’d love to hear your secrets.
