We’ve been experiencing a few technical difficulties with email notification of new plant lust blog posts. It’s our sincere hope that the situation is rectified. Thusly, it’d be grand to hear from you if you hear from us. (more…)
That’s how my daughter always gets me when I’m waffling on a plant purchase: “It’s such a good plant for tucking in.” The happy news–she’s never steered me wrong, on anything. When Megan started her Nestmaker Blog, my interest in plants exploded. How did she know about all this fabulous flora? She’s not even a scientist! (more…)
This time of year, it’s easy to find holy moments. Random, dashed-off shot can produce fabulous color-splashed scenes. I spend a lot of time swooning in the fall, and in the winter, and, let’s face it, in spring and summer too. You know. (more…)
Oh sure, big dense laurel hedges have their place–but only if you live in English Manor. I don’t seem as interested in the total privacy I hear other people talk about. I’m more attracted to screening that allows light through, especially in the dark months, and the opportunity to see what’s going on out there. Always something, right? (more…)
I’ve always want to go on the annual Catio Tour here in PDX, but something always comes up. Like I don’t get a ticket. My friend Cathi is not like me. So this year, when I blah blah blahed about wanting to go, Cathi sprang into action and signed us up.
I swear, after that first drenching rain, you can feel the earth breathing a sign of relief. And if it’s not asking too much, rain gods, it would be lovely if this year, you could spread the wealth. In fact, instead of the notion of wealth distribution, it’d probably be better to think of the rain more like a pot luck, wherein everyone brings a favorite dish–to share–and no one goes away hungry. Could you do it like that, huh, Rain Gods?
It’s hitting that time of year when my gardening enthusiasm wanes. Is that going on with everyone?
When I feel first hints of fall, my thoughts turn to “holiday season.” I love the lights and parties and activities–though in truth, my notions are far more complex that my execution. Especially since the fall and winter season always go so fast–similar to that scene in Romancing the Stone, wherein Joan Wilder and Jack T. Colton take a wild ride down a mud chute. Kinda like that.
I meant to send you a garden love note, but it seems I’ve escaped town without doing so. We’re in Leavenworth, Washington–feeling like we’re on a wee Bavarian vacation.
Recently the Heldreths held an open garden for fellow bloggers. We’d seen snippets of Laura & Charlie Heldreth’s garden in photographs, but most of us had not visited in person–and never en masse. If you’re a plant nerd, you know there is nothing better than kibitzing with other gardeners. No worries about dirt under your fingernails in this crowd. (more…)
Last week, I tried to tell the story of our new paths and patio. In truth, I got a little sidetracked. And then there’s the pesky issue of the snaps. For Pete’s sake: how do people get photos that do not include hoses, buckets, and tools dropped in their tracks? Not to mention photo-bombing by a wily pooch. Geeze Louise. (more…)
