Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Delosperma 'John Proffitt' Table Mountain has lavender-magenta flowers all summer on shiny, deep green foliage. Very low-growing to about three inches. Said to be an improved form of D. cooperi with faster growth and longer bloom time. Ice plants are long-blooming and carefree succulent mat-forming perennials similar to sedums that thrive in heat, drought and nearly any well-drained soil. Very hardy but should be protected from winter wet either with very well drained soil or in the rainshadow of a house or other structure. Great in containers.
Hardy Ice Plant that has large 1.5" bright fuchsia pink flowers with a pale center. This needs good drainage and low fertility to handle our winter wet but we have seen some good patches around. One of the best has been on the western edge of a big Doug Fir which is always pretty dry and this is thriving where little else will. Puts on a show!
One of the showest, the big magenta flowers keep coming more or less constantly all summer long. Some people claim it is hardy to zone 4...that may be true in the dry, Western US, but zone 6 is probably more reasonable for the East.
Totally bloomerific, this well-behaved, ground-covery succulent is easy as pie & some claim it's even hardy down to zone 4 in a protected spot, but I think zone 5 is a safer bet. To 2" tall at the most & filling out into a dense, rich green, weed suppressing mat ? 24" across ? it's super awesome for trailing over the edge of a bed & simplifying bare spots. Heat tolerant & fuss free, it blooms big in Spring ? lesser thru Summer ? with a second big flush in Fall. Bright magenta, yellow-eyed flowers are 1.5-2" across. Intermingle with equally matting & well behaved Delosperma nubigenum for textural interest! Give good drainage & a boost of compost once a year. Would be neat in a hanging basket! Deer resistant!

Bright fuchsia-colored flowers cover the succulent green leaves of this vigorous groundcover over much of the growing season while a purple tinge to the foliage adds winter interest. Sun/Med-Dry
A fast spreading groundcover from South Africa that blooms for most of the growing season. The lustrous, fuchsia-colored flowers are an improvement on Delosperma cooperi. During the winter the leaves remain turgid and green, often tinged with purple. Perennial. Clay, loam or sandy soils. USDA zones 4-9 (up to 7,000').
