Abies alba 'Pendula' - A weeping form of European Silver Fir. Found in 1835 at the Godefroy Nursery in Ville D'Avray, France. A large specimen stands in the botanic garden of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Does not like high levels of fertilizer.
This weeping European silver fir can be staked to attain a taller form from which the branches will gracefully drape, or it can be left unstaked and form a spreading mound. Glossy green needles have silvery undersides.
