Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Large red buds burst open with bright pink flowers. New foliage is a glossy green turning to cinnamon-colored in fall and then to deep purple as winter approaches. Rub the leaves and be treated to a spicy fragrance.
Tho this fine new Briggs'introduction produces its VERY hardy (to -30F) bright lavender-pnk flowers VERY early in the season, it's pretty all winter, as well, with rich, deep-purple foliage. Sun-PSh/Med
Similar to 'PJM Compact', but a much stronger-growing plant, with larger and heavier blooms, stems and foliage. This is a four-season performer, beckoning to spring with fat reddish buds bursting into bright pink blooms, followed by new foliage of bright apple green. In fall, foliage changes from green to cinnamon then to deep purple as winter approaches. As a plus, it's very hardy! (PJM, colchicine treated and confirmed to be tetraploid)

Covers in rich lavender-blue-pink flowers; PJM tetraploid.
This outstanding release is the result of years of research on the development of polyploid rhododendrons. 'Northern Starburst' is a tetraploid form of PJM Compact. It has significantly larger flowers of greater substance, thicker and stronger stems, and thicker leaves. The lavender-pink blooms appear early on this dense, compact shrub. Lepidote.
