Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Distinctive and handsome much of the year, this attractive 40-50'pyramidal tree has leaves with very distinctive long narrow lobes which are a lavish green in spring and summer before becoming a conflagration of oranges and yellows and purples in fall; this tree does produce a large crop of 'gumballs', so plant it where they will not be an issue; although the leaves of this tree might trick you into thinking it is some kind of maple, Liquidambars have alternate leaf arrangements while maples have opposite. An outstanding cultivar of Sweet Gum selected for its fingerlike leaves and for its rich purple, orange and yellow fall color that is just a knockout! Broadly pyramidal to oval growth habit reaching 60-75' in height and 40-50' wide. Great shade tree. AGM winner. Typical unearthly looking spiny fruit - Gumballs! Very popular in the UK, nearly impossible to find in the US. It's a winner!
