Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Stunningly beautiful, pure-white petals overlap around a center of glowing, golden stamens. The blossoms are perched gracefully on 3-4' stems rising above the clumps of lush deep-green trifoliate leaves. This heirloom from France was discovered in 1858 and still one of our favorite autumn bloomers. This delightful variety makes a great cut flower; named the Perennial Plant of the Year in 2016. This is a favorite at our nursery because it is so tough and requires almost no care, and looks even better for it. It is a very heavy flowering hybrid and we use it extensively for its cut flowers. Most Anemone species are fairly short, but this variety sends its flowers up to six feet high, while the leaves tend to remain shorter at 1-2 feet. 'Honorine Jobert' spreads slowly and is a great filler plant for long borders and open areas. It generally looks best when planted in beds under trees or other tall plants where it can act as an understory plant. Its leaves grow dense enough to completely cover any leaf fall and litter from trees during the summer.
Believed to have arisen from crosses between two Chinese species A. hupehensis and A. vitifolia, this popular garden perennial has long been grown in Japan. Tall stems from two to four feet hold aloft masses of pure white flowers with bright yellow centres in fall.
Classic white anemone
An evergreen, spreading perennial. Large, rich green leaves, composed of 3 oak-like leaflets, are held on slender stems. In Autumn, tall, branching, slender stems of pure white, pink backed, saucer shaped flowers, are produced.Prefers a moist sheltered position with a plenty of orgarnic matter in the soil. When happy it will form large colonies, with new plants arising from the wirey black roots.

Vigorous selection with slightly cupped white flowers and dark green leaves to 3'. Originally selected in 1858. Single with 6-9 petals.
White single blossoms with yellow centers on sturdy 3' stems bring grace to the garden in late-summer and early autumn. Grow in sun if soil is not dry, otherwise best in part shade.
Introduced in 1858, but still one of the most sought-after of the white Japanese anemones. Pure white petals frame the central cluster of golden stamens in early autumn. A mass of these pristine flowers can do wonders for fall sales at the garden center. AGM winner.
