Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Unusual edible plant that grows in cool winter areas. It forms a colony of stems 28-30” tall and 3’ wide with leaves softly marbled with silver on stems that provide the tropical look of ginger in a temperate garden! Orange-yellow, fall flower buds form at the base of the plant that are a prized ingredient in Asian noodle dishes. Easy in loose, fertile soil, enjoys morning sun or light shade and regular moisture.
This is the newest and rarest selection of the hardy Japanese ginger. This distinctive and fabulous cultivar has leaves that are marbled and splashed with silver gray, cream or white all over. It is vigorous and stable. This species is probably the hardiest of the true gingers. The species is grown as a food plant in Japan for its edible young shoots and flower buds.
