Known by a variety of names - Rain lilies, Fairy lilies or Zephyr lilies - these petite sparklers appear late in the season, when most everything else in the garden looks a bit fatigued. In other words, just when you need them most. Poke the little bulbs in the ground this season and enjoy the colorful show year after year.

Rain Lily, open-faced bright pink flowers; great container plants, they bloom after each rain all summer long.
"Luscious as a bowl of raspberry sherbet" wrote Elizabeth Lawrence of this, "the best known of all zephyr lilies." With grass-like foliage and rosy pink flowers on 6-10 inch stems, mostly in early summer, it was brought to the US from Central America in 1825. If you're north of zone 8, try some in a pot, once a common sight on porches. In winter, simply set the pot dry in the basement.
Rose-pink flowers, resembling small amaryllis, form on 8" stems from summer to early fall in our garden. Bright green, 12" leaves rise from a red tinged basal clump. Fully winter deciduous. Hardy to 20 °F. Mexico.
These rain lilies are an Amaryllis relative native to the Americas. Great outdoors in the south, excellent for indoor pots and plants. Tollerates any soil type. EASY to grow. Blooms several times each summer, after heavy rains (hence their common name "Rain Lily"). Plant Height: 8-10 inches or 20-25 cm Bloom Time: Summer and early Fall Zones 8-11, elsewhere dig and store for the winter. Bulb size 6+ cm in circumference. These will quickly bloom and multiply.
