Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Viola pedata 'Eco Artist Palette' is a cute little bird foot violet whose common name refers to its narrow, dissected foliage resembling that of a bird's foot. The reflexed petals are lilac-blue on the bottom and purple on the top covering its dense, low growing, clumping form to 4-6 inches tall and 12-14 inches wide. Blooms in spring with sporadic rebloom until frost. Use in a rock garden, along pathways, or at the front of a border, and in small containers. Attracts butterflies. Deer resistant. A native of southern Ontario where it reaches the northern limit of its range and is an endangered species.
Bird's Foot Violet. A selection with richly colored flowers from Don Jacobs of Eco Gardens. Two upper petals of purple violet contrast with the three paler petals and pairs with low finely cut foliage. This Great Plains native is a fine species and a tidy wee clumper. Most Violets scare the hell out of us because they either seed or run like mad. Or both.
