Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Sarracenias and other carnivorous plants are some of the most unusual manifestations of nature. This hardy Purple Pitcher Plant grows about 6-8" tall and has unique blush-purple coloring with pinstripe veining on the hood. Downward hairs in the opening of each pitcher entice insects to enter and meet their demise. Although smaller than the tropical pitcher plants, Purple Pitcher Plant is native to eastern North America from Virginia to Canada. A flower emerges out of the center of the plant during the summer months.
Low, chubby and wide green pitchers with dark red spots and veins. Numerous silver hairs around the flared opening. 1 ft x 1 ft in nutrient poor, wet media.
