Richard Dufresne's hybrid, a cross between Salvia grahamii and Salvia microphylla. Narrow green foliage and attractive purple stems. Hardy to 10F.
Growing to 2' is full sun, this salvia is very attractive to hummingbirds. It has large lipstick red fragrant flowers. Hardy in zones 6-11. Deer resistant
Easy to guess that the flowers would be bright red on this small, shrubby salvia, to 36" tall x 18" wide, beginning to blossom in early summer and continuing into the fall -- hummingbird heaven. Shearing back in mid season can prolong the bloom period. This cross between S. greggii and S. microphylla likes sun with a bit of protection in the afternoon in hottest climates. Needs well-drained soil for winter protection and a bit of summer water in hot weather. Frost hardy to at least 0F, USDA zone 7. Tolerates humidity as well.
