Hands down the best purple sage and one of the best tried and true garden stalwarts we carry. Salvia 'Caradonna' has neat and tidy spires of purple stems, purple buds and purple flowers. It is strongly upright and structural in the garden as long as soils are not too rich or the light too low. It blooms over an extended period and will rebloom with deadheading. Spikes of saturated violet-purple are held strongly upright by deep indigo stems. Blooming in late spring to summer they are outstanding garden performers, and attract pollinators. Award-winning meadow sage is lovely in combination with fiery orange Geum and the cup-shaped violet blue blooms of 'Orion' Geranium."
Unique, blackish magenta tones darken the lustrous flower stems of this superb new cultivar. Set against these upright and lengthy, dark stalks, the violet blossoms appear dazzling, and will bloom well into fall with attentive dead-heading. A chance seedling found in a German nursery, 'Caradonna's tidy base of textured green foliage and plum-hued blooms impart harmonious accents to Sedum 'Matrona's smoky colors.
