This black berry (don't be put off!) makes a wonderful evergreen carpet. Have seen beautiful banks covered with R. 'Emerald Carpet'. The leaves are deeply veined evergreen and the flowers are white. In early summer the yellow fruit are tasty but not produced in large numbers. Spread but doesn't seed around.
This versatile and very handsome groundcover will, in its vigorous but unaggressive manner, cover areas in sun or shade with its small, leathery leaves (bright-green in summer, burgundy in winter); 2-3' spacing for good coverage. S-Sh/M-D
Meet the Fokeanus! From a Far Reaches collection in Yunnan, this sweet, highly textured woodland ground cover 4"tall spreads slowly (as in not invasive) with elegant fringed edging and lovely vein embossing on each evergreen leaflet, suggestive of Fragaria. White star flowers March>May are followed by pale orange fruit. Average soil and at least semi-regular moisture in part shade to shade. We need more serviceable shade ground covers! I am planting this in my stump garden.
A creeping, member of the blackberry family. Excellent in rock walls, as a groundcover, under shrubs. Round, crinkled foliage of green & maroon in summer; plum red in winter. This Himalayan species "Hugs" whatever it meets! Great Fall color. A tremendous, fast groundcover. TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH! This is absolutely one of our favorite groundcovers. We prefer groundcovers that creep on top of the soil, as opposed to those that move underground because surface root-as-they-grow plants are much easier to keep in bounds.

A choice little woodland groundcover from our collection in a high elevation coniferous forest in Yunnan where it grew not far from Primula sonchifola and Megacodon stylophorus. Slow carpeter with white flowers and small pale orange fruit nestled in the nicely textured leaves.. Choice and not invasive by a long shot.
