Brazen Hussy' has to be one of the most entertaining cultivar names in all of horticulture. This special form of the European celandine buttercup has luscious, burgundy-black foliage and cheerful yellow buttercups. This species is a spring ephemeral that will go completely dormant by summer, a trait that makes this species incredibly valuable for layering early spring colour into your garden planted between and underneath late-emerging perennials and deciduous shrubs.
A wonderful selection from Christopher Lloyd with black purple foliage and starry golden flowers, Brigitta has been building quite a collection of ficaria forms and one of these years we will offer all of them, despite their reputation for being rampant colonizers the double forms have been quite slow here. ZONE 4
Produces glossy, deep chocolate-brown, almost black leaves, appearing late fall, lasting through spring. The yellow flowers are so shiny they look lacquered. What a contrast! Grow in average to wet soil. Summer dormant.
From the woodlands of Europe and northern Aftica. Bronze, almost black foliage. Bright yellow, many petaled buttercup-like flowers in early spring. Goes dormant in summer. Moist but well drained soil. Light shade. Zones 5-9.

Neat little dark-leafed selection of this English wildflower named by Christopher Lloyd. A bulbous species, this buttercup grows in rich moist soil but can take some summer dry when it is dormant. The leaves appear in early winter and great flowers in early spring and by summer is gone.
