Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The beautiful maple-like leaves of this 12" mounding groundcover open bronze-green, age to green brushed with bright red during summer, then to gold tinted-red for fall; a gorgeous and hardy Chinese Heuchera relative, in fact, Muckdenia is named to commemorate the city of Mukden, the ancient Chinese capital of the Manchu dynasty. PSh-Sh/M
This valuable yet relatively little known Asian perennial is great as a ground cover or specimen plant in partial shade. In early spring, branched stalks of small, white (sometimes pink), bell-shaped flowers appear before the foliage. The large, toothed leaves of Mukdenia 'Crimson Fans' are especially handsome, emerging bronzy green, turning to all green, and then taking on red splashes that become gold in fall. Evenly moist, well-drained soil. Plants will spread slowly from thick rhizomes.
A special member of the Saxifraga family with handsome foliage and short spires of white flowers in April and early May. This plant is not just for spring interest. The fan shaped maple like foliage is always attractive and takes on a beautiful crimson coloring in fall. Grows 12-15" tall, slowly forms spreading clumps 12-18" wide.
Fan-shaped, shiny green, 2-3" wide leaves are blushed with red throughout the summer and then turn fire-red in fall. Light to open shade makes for the best leaf color. Starry white spring flowers held on 12" stems sprinkle themselves above the leaves. At home in the woodland garden, this plant makes an unusual and successful clumping ground cover with a pronounced pattern. Minimum temperature: -20°F
Compact groundcover with multi-lobed, serrated leaves. Leaf tips are crimson red. Small white flowers appear in panicles and rise above the plant in early spring. Herbaceous Perennial (will die back in fall and re-emerge in spring).
A japanese selection with green leaves edged in reddish purple I believe this is identical to the plant being marketed as crimson fans. I hate it when they do that. ZONE 4
Crimson Fans. An amazing clone of a hardy Korean species in the Saxifragaceae. The early spring flowers are little pale things which are les amuse-geules for the foliar main course. In sun, the leaves turn a screaming crimson as summer ages especially if briefly and carefully water stressed. Moist.
Mukdenia is a very hardy, deciduous Heuchera relative from China. This form has large maple-like leaves, which emerge green then age (after flowering) to mid-green splashed with bright red. Foliage remains red all summer. Numerous white, bell-shaped flowers are held in branched panicles for several weeks from February to April.
