Amazing S. African introduced by California plantsman Gary Hammer, has proven reliable even in our wet, cold winters. The bulbs produce 1' long, deciduous, strap-like, grey-green leaves that are heavily spotted with random liver-colored patterns. Each easy-to-grow, 6" tall x 20" wide clump looks great in the summer rock garden or in a special pot! Sun – well drained soil.
Zn 6. Thin green leaves / red spots.Green flowers
A striking foliage plant with about 12" long leaves, irregularly flecked maroon. The pink flowers in summer come as a bonus. Easy to grow in any well draining soil.
A charming version of the common squill, this South African form has wonderful foliage, long narrow, gray-green leaves, evenly spotted and lasting for up to three months before dormancy arrives. Forms clumps to only 6" tall x 20" wide. The flowers are a pale blue and proliferate cheerfully. Sun and dry summers, though summer moisture is tolerated. Don't be fooled, hardier than they look! Frost hardy to a bit below 10 °F, upper USDA zone 7. Does well in containers.
