Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A bulbous perennial native to the South African wetlands and grasslands. Flowers are very fragrant and showy.
Sweet and easy bulb from South Africa with 4", narrow, olive-green leaves, upright and marked with purple stripes and spots. Decorative in themselves, and more so in spring when adorned with racemes of pink, scilla-like flowers. Spreads slowly to form a 1 ft wide clump. Easy in the garden in sun or part shade where good drainage can protect from too much winter wet. Tolerates some summer drought but accepts summer water as well. Frost hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
Often overlooked, this sweet little bulbous perennial is one of the cutest plants we grow!! Only a few inches tall and a foot wide; olive green leaves are nicely marked with purple striping and decorated with rosy pink flowers April > June – Sun to part shade – most soils – wall niches, front of border, rock gardens – versatile!!
Narrow, olive-green leaves with dark purple striping. In early spring, the clumps are adorned with miniature, rosy pink, scilla-like racemes. Provide ample moisture during the growing season. Some shade will be required in warmer climates. The bulbs are planted 4″ deep.
This petite South African bulb has burgundy pin-striping on its olive-green leaves, and pink-mauve loose racemes of starry flowers in mid-spring that reside amongst the leaves. These low clumps fill a pot beautifully - the effect is something like a cross between a plant and a cute sea creature. Keep moist because its home ground is in moist South African grassland-the genus is ubiquitous there with 37 species. Whatever water it does or doesn't receive, it needs to have well-draining soil. Minimum temperature: 0 °F
A just plain pretty plant with lance-shaped, prominently dark purple pinstriped foliage. Produces racemes of mid-pink flowers, quite floriferous. Needs well drained but the soil shouldn't dry out all the way.
Tender yet incredibly easy South African bulb which increases freely and is so rewarding with quite incidental care. Nifty container plant with green bladed leaves with radical maroon stripes and pink Scilla flowers in late spring. It's a sweety and needs to be overwintered inside and cool.
