This beautiful almost-native now has "giant" 3" flowers of soft blue with gold crests and dark blue accents; from eastern woodlands and floodplains, it will look lovely at pond's edge/in rock garden/or woodland. PSh-Sh/M/GDr
Another plant for DRY SHADE! This is a deciduous iris that naturalizes by rhizomes so don’t plant it next to your endangered orchid! 12” tall foliage is topped with 3” wide powdery blue flowers with cobalt, white and golden markings on the falls, April > May. Great choice under oaks and other native trees that need summer dry…this iris is also happy in rich, well drained with regular moisture. Deer resistant. USDA Z3
Iris cristata 'Powder Blue Giant' is considerably huskier and more vigorous than the species. It produces 3 inch wide flowers of light blue with golden crests and deep blue accents. Vigorous and easy to grow! It is great along the woodland path or in front of shrubs. Divide every other year and protect from slugs when foliage is first emerging.
A much larger version, with soft lavender-blue flowers. Choose this selection as a small scale ground cover among larger perennials and shrubs. Drought tolerant, especially in shade.
Another selection of Dwarf Crested Iris, and as the name implies, large soft blue blossoms rise just above 4-6" spreading iris foliage. A nice groundcover for the partially shaded woodland garden.
We have long affection for all the forms of the dwarf Iris cristata which is an east coast native and with Powder Blue Giant our affections sometimes manifest themselves in PDA's such as stroking the large medium blue flowers and oohing. Deciduous carpeter. A real sweety.
