(NAUGHTY LADY) This Amaryllis is a real ZINGER! Big bold RED flowers with starry white throats in clusters April to May will not be ignored! Strappy curving leaves take on a bronze tone in full sun. Deer and rodent resistant. This bulbous perennial multiplies quickly so you will have an ever increasing bloom; long lived, sun to part sun, avoid heavy soils, prefers regular water. WHY do we not see more of these in gardens??! USDA 7b
Large clusters of lightly fragrant, bright orange-red trumpet shaped flowers sit atop sturdy stems in spring. Tough, vigorous, and freely produces offsets that will eventually create a solid mass of bulbs and blossoms. One of the very best for use in gardens, Voodoo Amaryllis is equal to the St. Joseph's Lily for reliability, durability, and hardiness but with wider petals, a flatter display, and slightly larger flowers. Image courtesy of AG3. Hardy Amaryllis do best with plenty of sunlight and a well draining soil but are fairly tolerant otherwise. They should never be kept overly wet or soggy, allow the soil to become slightly dry between waterings but not to the point of wilt. These are all hybrid varieties that will produce offsets freely and seedlings may come true or nearly so to the mother plant. 'Naughty Lady' and 'Voodoo' Amaryllis are considered to be the same. St. Joseph's Lily, Hippeastrum x johnsonii, is similar but has narrower petals than 'Voodoo'. The wider petals of 'Voodoo' create a fuller and flatter display and are more recurving, whereas the redder flowers of A. x johnsonii are more trumpet shaped and may be smaller in overall diameter with a variable white star. Generally the white stripes of A x johnsonii will extend past the petal's apex in its recurve. A. x ackermanii is solid red according to some resources and has a white star by others, I suspect that as with offsets came some hybrid seedlings and so these too may have been shared as if they were still the initial cultivar adding to the confusion even seemingly among the experts.
Blood red flowers on sturdy 20 inch stems. Bulbous perennial that increases well for a showy display in maturity.
