Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii is commonly known as the Cold Hardy Amaryllis. Hippeastrum x 'Ackermanii' is one of the earliest Hippeastrum hybrids. I have over wintered mine for 9 years in my zone 6 garden just by just throwing some leaves over top of it in the fall. In the spring we are treated to large beautiful dark red flowers around 4 to 8 inches across. The foliage is long strap like foliage which looks great in the cold hardy jungle. Foliage: Strap like foliage 1 to 2 feet tall Flowers: Huge dark red flowers in the spring and sometimes later in the season. Height: 1 to 3 feet tall
