This trailer (to 8" high) is perfect for a rock wall or the front of the border where its large intricately feathered trumpets of true sky-blue can be admired in early fall. S-PSh/M/GDr (not dry)
A relatively easy Gentian to grow if provided with a soil that is well drained but irrigated during dry spells. Hummingbirds love their cobalt blue tubular flowers which appear in late summer and early fall. Sprawling habit with a height of 6-8". Charming tucked into a rocky crevice or a t the top of retaining walls.
Masses of amazingly bright blue flowers cover this gentian in June. Some stems are upright, others are prostrate with the last few inches of stem upturned to clear the ground. Plant in part shade to part sun. Avoid full sun. This gentian is one of the easiest to grow and tolerates a wide range of soils and exposures. Good for rock gardens and near pathways where it can be appreciated. From the Caucasus, Turkey, Iraq and Iran.
One of the easier Gentians for the garden and if you have been scared to try one of the members of this regal genus than try this one because it is just a F250 pickup in character. Don't be fooled by those foo-foo blue flowers - it is tough. Tolerant of heavy soils to boot.
Vivid blue flowers are born over a long season starting midsummer on 10" tall and wide plants. Reliable and easy to grow than some if its cousins.
