Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This wonderful clumping bamboo (absolutely no chance of invasion) is tolerant of both sun and shade, creating a lovely 6-8' tall fountain with pretty red-brown culm sheathes, very useful for container, specimen or as a beautiful evergreen hedge; this bamboo is native to the mountains to the W. Sichuan province in China and is one of the many bamboos eaten by the Giant Panda. S-Sh/M
An excellent, fast-growing clumping bamboo for creating solid hedges and screens. Each clump will have hundreds of individual canes packed together to form one of the densest walls of foliage offered by any bamboo, and in a short time too. From a one or two gallon plant, Fargesia rufa can establish to a height of about eight feet with dense foliage several feet in diameter in 2-3 years, especially with amended soil and fertilizer. Fargesia rufa will handle more sun than most other Fargesias, even in the Rogue Valley where summer temperatures often reach 100+ degrees for a week or more at a time, it can handle sun for all but the hottest part of the afternoon (just be sure to water it well!).
Fargesia rufa tends to grow in a slightly weeping fashion similar to other Fargesias, but it can be easily kept upright by trimming the tips of canes which are leaning over. Once the tip weight is removed, the stems will spring back upright to keep a more tidy plant for those with a narrow environment. Personally, we have found that when space is available the wide, slightly weeping plants create a mystic appearance to a hedge.

One of the hardiest and most vigorous clumping bamboos, Fargesia 'Sunset Glow' has beautiful orange-red cane sheaths with the traditional narrow bamboo leaves. The growth habit is slightly weeping and very dense. 'Sunset Glow' is a non-invasive, high mountain, clumping bamboo that originated in China at elevations of 1000-3500', which is why it is hardy to zone 5 in the garden. It also makes an ideal container plant. Fargesia 'Sunset Glow' is sun and wind tolerant and makes a wonderful hedge or garden screen.
Very hardy, rare, and unique, this newly introduced species features orange-red culm sheaths that contrast nicely with the dark green canes and attractive, tropical looking foliage.
Excellent as a specimen or plant several as a hedge, this is the hardiest of the non invasive clumping bamboo, hardy to -15 °F. Clumps mature at 8-10' in height and have a diameter of about 8'. Provide a spot in sun or part shade with good drainage. 12-15".
Lovely form of clumping bamboo, the same pendulous habit of the other fargesias with a lovely color addition. Mother Nature hasn't gone wrong by adding orange-red culm sheaths that glow on these slender stems!

Orange-red cane sheaths in spring on stems reaching 8' tall. Prolific canes and clumping habit make this species a useful hedge or screen.
