    Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A golden glow is added to the shade garden or partly-shaded border by the finely-cut fern-like foliage of this pretty bleeding heart even after its soft-pink "bleeding hearts" are past. PSh-Sh/M
Stunning, brilliant yellow-golden leaves unfurl in early spring, glowing in a shaded spot! Long season of large dangling, perfect pink heart shaped flowers complete the effect! Almost surreal! Good soil, regular moisture and shade (the golden leaves will become burnt toast in a sun!). Pure gold! USDA Z3
Bred by fellow Canadians Sandra and Nori Pope during their tenure at Hadspen Garden in the UK, Dicentra 'Gold Heart' is the classic bleeding heart with chartreuse to gold foliage to back up the rose-pink and white flowers. It's shocking, it's audacious, it's electric, it's fabulous. Great for illuminating a dark corner of the shade garden. May go dormant in summer if soils are dry.
Take a timeless classic, change up the foliage to a brilliant chartreuse-yellow-gold and you've got a winner! We can thank the keen eye of plantswoman Nori Pope at the famous Hadspen Garden and Nursery at Castle Cary, Somerset, England for this wonderful addition to the spring garden repertoire. This species of Dicentra goes dormant in early summer, so it's best to plant something (like Geranium macrorrhizum 'Bevans Variety') nearby which will cover the gap for the remainder of the season

    By: Deer Country Gardens

Hailing from the Pope's Hadspen Gardens in Somerset, England, this Dicentra's artful golden mounds of dissected ferny leaves will light up the shady corners of your garden. Nodding heart-styled rose pink flowers line long, one-sided arching racemes above spectacular glowing foliage that is more yellow in bright shade and transforms to lime green in deeper shade. 'Gold Heart' can be massed with blue flowering Pulmonaria 'Highdown' and Anemone nemorosa 'Vestal' for sparkling color and contrasting foliar textures.
A brilliant gold leaved version of the always lovely bleeding heart. I personally feel the pink flowers clash a wee bit with the leaves, but the foliage display is so bright and striking the rest of the year that it is worth putting up with. Tend to go dormant in the summer if too hot and dry, so keep well watered to keep those leaves up as long as possible. This plant has, actually, had a name change recently, the proper genus now being Lamprocapnos... I understand and honest appreciated, as annoying as it can be, taxonomists getting more acurate information about how plants are related. I just wish that when they got a new name they'd put SOME priority on them being something I can remember. And spell. And pronounce. Zone 5
Early to rise, 'Gold Heart' is a form of Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart, emerging in early May with lemon yellow foliage and arching 24" stems bedecked with dangling pink blossoms resembling little hearts or pantaloons, (take your pick). 'Gold Heart' isn't as vigorous as the species, so a little extra care is needed, (good drainage, ample moisture during growth, avoid crowding by too pushy neighbors). Make sure you mark it's location, as it goes dormant when hot weather arrives. We encourage self sowing Nicotiana to fill in for late summer interest.
Strong growing variety with deep pink heart-shaped flowers. The new foliage has a reddish tint to it, gradually turning a bright golden yellow and finally lime green in summer.

    By: Greer Gardens Inc.

Exquisite, brilliant gold leaves from arching peach-colored stems. Heart-shaped rose-pink flowers hang down for months in late spring. From Nori Pope, formerly of Hadspen House Nursery, England. Makes a dramatic statement in the spring garden.
Remarkable pale orange stems hold dashing golden leaves in early spring. Always a show to enjoy and such a tough plant. Rose-pink flowers. 3' tall and wide.
The familiar old-fashioned bleeding heart dressed in glowing yellow. There is no pretense to subtlety here; this plant draws the eye like a beacon. Makes a bright accent in a partially shaded garden. The flowers are the usual pink-and-white hearts, dangling from arching stems from midspring to early summer. GPP award.
