Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Where do I begin talking about a group of one of the easiest to grow, most misunderstood plants ? If I can only use one word it would be DRAINAGE! Especially during their short Summer dormant period. What other plant gives you beautiful pink and white pendulous flowers in September and Octpber and spectacular silvery mottled, immensely variable foliage all Winter? Plant with the bulbs slightly above soil level under a tree for shade and drainage and you'll soon have a huge colony.
Familiar with colorful florist cyclamens? Did you know there are several varieties that can be grown in home gardens? This variety is the easiest and delivers an unexpected, but oh so welcome, pop of pink in September/October.

Pink blooms surprise you in August and September on 6" curved stems. Very attractive wintertime foliage forms a puzzle-like mat of mosaiced green and silver that spreads across the ground and flows between stones. Makes you want to give it a pat.Minimum temperature: -20 °F
This delicate shady perennial has charming pink flowers with a magenta V at the base of each petal. The leaves are ivy shaped, dark green and often marbled with light green. C. hederifolium is summer dormant coming into leaf and bloom between August and October. It remains evergreen throughout the winter. Grow in light, well-drained soil in shade or part shade. Plant en masse for a superb woodland effect. Widely distributed along the Mediterranean from France to Turkey.
We're proud to deliver huge bulbs, 3-4 inches across, of this fall-blooming cyclamen that bulb-guru John Bryan calls "the first choice for most gardens." Known as sowbread in Shakespeare's time, today it's called ivy-leaved cyclamen for its angular, ivy-like, silver-patterned leaves. Give it light shade and humus-rich soil that's dry in summer. Aka C. neapolitanum, 4-6", zones 6a-7b(9bWC)
Hardy Cyclamen are appealing because they are carefree and tough. Established plants can have hundreds of flowers, and live for many years. Not collected in the wild, a domestic source. Pink and white flowered with heavily mottled foliage.
Ferociously floriferous; the clumps of marbled foliage can spread to nearly 2' wide, radiating from flattened bulbs the size of dinner plates and producing delicate pink flowers in such numbers as not to be believed from late summer until early winter. They posses the amplitude and grace of a florist Cyclamen and a tuberous tenacity that rivals Kudzu.
Pink or white flowers 1" tall with darker, ruffled-like base. Very attractive, strikingly mottled foliage from late fall thru spring. For well drained soil. Great for planting under trees and shrubs where they naturalize. Summer Dormant. 2 3/8" square - 3 3/4" deep pots.
This charming woodland species is a favorite in our garden where the green and pewter variegated foliage provides fall to spring interest beneath the Katsura tree. Plants usually go dormant in summer and appreciate a break from regular watering, but reappear in the fall and winter with delicate blushing flowers on naked stalks. Over time the low-growing colonies will spread slowly creating lovely drifts to delight the eye. An excellent choice for dry shade. Hardy to 0 °F. Native to Europe and Turkey.
Blooms: winter, pink-magenta/ summer deciduous, gray-green foliage Zone 6-9. 6", Europe, part shade-shade, moist, well drained.
Hardy Cyclamen that is perfectly suited to our area and one of the few plants you can grow successfully under Firs or Cedars. Summer dormant when dry and grows in winter when the rains are happening. This is early Fall pleasure with lots of pink flowers before the leaves appear.
There seems to be a lot of diversity under the umbrella of this species, but let it NOT be said that this one's a wimp. The leaves & flowers may be variable, but this is a TOUGH PLANT & long lived!! There have been documented cases of tubers of this species living for longer than a century & growing to the size of a Frisbee! Blooms from late Summer into Fall before the foliage emerges & the leaves persist through Winter. Avoid over-watering in Summer when tubers are dormant, but give this plant good soil & light shade for best performance. Delightful as a groundcover under Azaleas! May take it’s time to establish, but afterwards is sure to be a steady & reliable Autumn delight! Mulch tops in colder winter zones.
Rose pink flowers Aug. - Sept. on 3-4" stems. Large light green leaves marbled silver and white. Also white varieties set corms a foot apart.
