Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Colocasia Thai Giant is an outrageous, fast growing tropical landscape plant well worth growing for the looks of fascination and delight. In a single season, a well fed and watered 4” pot will grow into a monster plant reaching 6-10’ tall with large rounded, bright green leaves that look like giant elephant ears. Thai Giant resembles Gigantea but boasts more pronounced ribs. Use as a fast growing annual in your summer garden for a dramatic tropical effect. In the winter, dig the tubers and place in the cellar or prune the plant and bring inside.
Large, huge, or enormous are just some of the words used to describe this Colocasia. Truly representative of Elephants Ears this Thai Giant is a variety that won't disappoint you with is majestic grandeur. Each leaf will reach approximately 48" across. Use as a focal point in a garden or grow in a large pot to create a living green beauty on your patio. When given warmth and some sun its speed of growth is as amazing as its size. Don't forget to feed it throughout the summer.
Gigantea' is a cultivar with HUGE, dramatic, arrow-shaped, green leaves. It can be grown as a marginal plant in ponds or in pots or beds with evenly moist soil. Yellowish-white spathes and spadixes may appear in summer but are usually hidden by the foliage. Though potentially hardy they are best brought in as a houseplant. A houseplant in winter for most but foliage can be chopped down to return in spring.
Colocasia Gigantea (Giant Thailand Strain) is a monster plant extremely fast growing. Producing huge leaves 4 to 6 feet long and 3 to 5 feet wide. I have seen photos of mature plants in the wild up to 10 to 12 feet tall. The first year I grew the plant I was able to take a 4 inch tall plant and get it to over 8 feet tall in one season which is around 5 months. It is a great center piece plant and demands attention in any display. I highly recommend it for the tropical look in a large pot on in a landscape you cannot go wrong with this one for a dramatic statment. The plants offered were grown from seed and are very well rooted in 4 inch pots and are around 8 inches tall. Foliage: Huge bluish green leaves that have a white powder on them up to 5 feet across and 7 feet long Flowers: white hooded flowers Height: up to 12' or more.
