Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Jack's Giant is a sport of the classic big-leafed elephant ear plant, an unexpectedly large one that originated by accident. This true giant matures to heights of 7 feet, with simialr widths. The individual leaves, on long arching stesm, grow to between 3 and 4 feet long, for truly a stunning presentation. Can be grow in a very large container and overwintered in a cool greenhouse. Why Grow Elephant Ears? Few plants are as bold and impressive as these. Excellent for height and drama. No need to travel across the world for a touch of the tropics. For Jack's Giant to reach it's taller-than-a-person height it must be allowed to grow from one year to the next and not be trimmed down at the end of a growing season. See Planting Guide (right) for more details.

6-8' tall. Jacks Giant is a brilliant green elephant ear with a girthy green trunk. The massive leaves reach 5' long. These Elephant ears really take the show. Hardy to zone 7
Colocasia 'Jacks Giant' is a monster of the Colocasia world. This plant can grow to full size in one season given the right light and watering. The leaves area dark green heart shaped and can grow to 3 feet long or more and 2 to 3 feet wide. The petioles green as well. I have found this is not the same as the Common form which is commonly sold in stores. They look similar but Jacks Giant has different colored tubers. It is believed that Jacks Giant is a tetraploid having extra chromosomes which make the plant larger with thicker leaves and very vigorous. A great plant for northern growers wanting a large plant in one season. It also does well in large containers and should do well in tropical gardens to. Foliage: Very large heart shaped green leaves. Flowers: Green hooded spath Height: 8 feet tall or more in idea conditions.
These wonderful plants reach 7 feet with blue-green leaves. It says "tropical" all over! Rich organic amendments along with heavy fertilizer applications produce "Giant" results. Zone 7.
