Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Clematis cirrhosa 'Freckles' is an evergreen, winter-blooming species with fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers from November into February on the West Coast, earlier than any other clematis. The interiors of the flowers are heavily speckled with burgundy-red. The foliage is glossy and dark green. Attractive, fluffy seed heads follow the flowers. Pruning group A.
Enjoy this WINTER BLOOMING beauty with its dangling bells of lightly scented, ivory bells with lots of merlot freckles produced all winter long (and sporadically the rest of the year!). Evergreen vine that grows 12-18’ fairly quickly (or you can keep it smaller in a pot with a trellis). Easy to grow in a fertile, moist, well drained soil in sun to half day sun; needs support. Good pollinator plant for early bees. Lightly prune after flowering. Place where you can enjoy those winter flowers close up all winter long!
Freckles is a very colorful selection of the species cirrhosa. The robust foliage and beautiful, pendulous flowers are best in mild climates. Small Flower Type.
