A vigorous hybrid from Japan with bell-shaped dangling flowers borne in summer, and glossy tufted seed heads providing beauty for the rest of the season. A spectacular navy blue color that looks great paired with yellow-green or creamy variegated foliage.

People always exclaim when they see these two inch cobalt blue bells with recurving petals that obligingly bloom from early May and on into September! Weaving its way through a (compatibly colored or perhaps less interesting) shrub, or on a tuteur, this Clematis, at 72" is the perfect size and sufficiently showy for the task.

Dangling from the curved ends of lax stems, dark plum-colored droves of dainty ribbed bells, edged in light lavender, compose a nonstop summer fling. The 3 in. long blooms showcase prominent curled up tepal tips that add fairy tale appeal. Hybridized by Kazuhige Ozawa, this endearing Clematis grows as an herbaceous perennial, its nonclinging stems scramble about to grace a container, form a ground cover or thread their way through an open shrub.

Clematis Rooguchi is a relatively new selection from Japan with a loose sprawling habit that can be allowed to ramble through your garden or can be guided and tied to supports. Its deep purple, 2.5 inch flowers have an open bell shape and are borne all summer long! I have seen this grown to perfection through the legs of a tall climbing rose where it held dozens of flowers out from the mass to adorn what would have otherwise been an unsightly thorny mess. Small Flowered Clematis. Ozawa, Japan 1988. This is a Group 3 (C) Clematis, which means it flowers later in summer and into fall in colder climates. In warmer climates it may begin blooming much sooner. Group 3 Clematis form flowers on new growth each year, so for the best display and neatest look they should be pruned back hard each spring to about two feet off the ground or even less if desired. However, if you are training one of these into a tree or onto an overhead arbor they should be left much longer. Look for fat, healthy buds on sturdy canes and make your cut just above them. Remove dead or damaged branches any time.

Don't be confused. This hybrid of Clematis integrifolia and durandii behaves as an herbaceous perennial that needs a support. It could grow to 6' in 1 season, but will not take on a pergola or tall archway. That being said, 'Roguchi' produces an abundace of 2" cobalt blue bells from June until September. Clematis 'Roguchi' grows well in many hot southern zones as well as cold northern climates. Use to climb through shrubs, an adornment for a garden obelisk or in front of a fence in need of interest.
