Tuck here, tuck there... Japanese sedge is a great plant for tucking at the feet of other plants, in any blank spot of soil or spilling over the edge of a container or wall. "A truly beautiful sedge, useful as accent, in groups, groundcover, or container" (R. Darke), the fine glossy leaves of this densely tufted 12-16" tussock have a showy wide mid-stripe of creamy-gold. S-PSh/M
Narrow evergreen arching grassy foliage is bright yellow with dark green borders and forms tidy little clumps 8-12” tall and 12-18” wide. Moist to wet soil, morning sun or light shade is best. Deer resistant. Nice in pots. If foliage gets funky, cut it back almost to the ground in late winter to renew. USDA Z6
Zn 5. Creamy white centers with green edges.
Of all the variegated Carexes that are coming on the market now, this is the most vibrant. The brilliant variegation seems to be 100% stable. The blades and very wide (????) and the plant forms a nice clump, ????, Full sun or part shade doesn't seem to matter.
Variegated with creamy yellow blades and dark green borders, this sedge will usually be about 10" tall and 20" wide - a nice round, dense fountain given consistently moist soil and part shade. Mulch would be in order to maintain moisture.
A dense, clump-forming sedge with arching, variegated foliage. Leaves have dark green margins with broad creamy white to creamy yellow centers. Foliage color is richer in part shade than in the sun. Tends to not do well in full shade. Is evergreen in the warmer zones of its range, but will have to be cut back in the winter in colder zones and used as a perennial sedge. Growth Rate medium
One of the most beautiful of all the sedges, the narrow foliage arches into attractive hummocks. Each leaf is vividly striped dark green and creamy gold. The nice weeping habit makes 'Evergold' useful as a the border, near a water feature, in mass plantings, and in pots and planters! Though recommended for average to moist sites I have found it to be quite drought tolerant in shaded areas. Evergreen. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens.
Touted as one of the most graceful of the variegated sedges, this clump-forming evergreen Carex captivates us with dense and dapper, gracefully weeping blades. A butter-colored median band daringly lights up each long, fine textured dark green leaf. Carex oshimensis dwells amid the rock-laden slopes and dry woodlands on Japan's main island, Honshu, rendering 'Evergold' a choice contender for your favorite pot, the rockery or woods. Smoothing over hard edges and luminous en masse, it happily obliges varied conditions, except intense hot weather.
We love this tough sedge. It is wonderful in deep dry shade, and still shows up great. Looks good over the edge of a container, too.

This excellent Japanese sedge has bright yellow bands on arching leaves. It forms a neat, compact, rounded clump that grows to about 1' in sun or partial shade. A superb border or container plant. Suitable for moist areas, even drier ones. Adds a glow to our gray days of winter here at the nursery.

Grasses generally perform poorly in shade, but their close relatives the sedges prefer it. This evergreen selection has striking, banded leaves with a central stripe that is creamy white on new growth, creamy yellow on mature foliage. Makes a bright accent in a shady corner. Best in moist but well-drained soil but tolerates dry soil better than many other sedges. Compact, tufted habit. AGM winner.
