This fine compact Aster introduced by Mt. Cuba Center forms an 18" mound of deep purple which is eye-catching by itself and show-stopping mixed with other fall "minis". S/M
(AKA Symphyotrichum novae-angliae Purple Dome) Very compact and heavy blooming variety, this aster usually tops out at 18-20” tall and domes out to 24-30”; in late summer and early fall, this cushion of foliage bursts with rich purple flowers that cover the plant! Very easy, most any soil, takes dryish to wet conditions (but doesn’t like winter sog), attracts butterflies, small vase cut flowers. A sun worshiper. USDA Z3 4” pot
Dick Lighty of The Mount Cuba Center in Greenville Delaware spotted this dwarf form of Aster novae angliae along a Pennsylvania roadside. It blooms in late Summer with dark purple flowers with yellow centers. And instead of the typical 5'-6' height, only reaches 8"-14" tall. Ideal for the front of the border.
A naturally compact, floriferous variety that provides a burst of vibrant purple color in the late season landscape. One of the most garden-worthy native selections out there, introduced by the Mt. Cuba Center in Delaware. Excellent mildew resistance.
