Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Asplenium (phyllitis) scolopendrium 'Furcata', is split crest Hart’s tongue fern. Makes for an alien and captivating specimen with the tips of the fronds split forming a Y-shape that is also crested with an attractive petticoat with lower edges lightly ruffled. The fronds are roughly oriented in a vase shape making this a great architectural plant for the front of shade border which contrasts well in form with other shade perennials. Growth habit is 10 inches tall with a 15 inch spread. Deer resistant.

(FORK CRESTED HART’S TONGUE) Another variation on this tough little evergreen fern, that looks so little like a fern! 10” long leathery leaves resembling wide green ribbons with forked tips (a tongue piercing gone awry?) with significant irregular ruffling that provides ethereal texture! Slowly expanding clumps may reach 18-24” across. Light to moderate shade in moist soils, but takes some dry shade once established. Woodland, walls, pots, easy. USDA Z5

An evergreen fern with lovely, uncut, strap-like fronds. They are deep green, 3″ wide and turn chartreuse when backlit by the sun.

Evergreen, wavy, leathery, shiny forked fronds (biFURCATed) form a wonderfully patterned mound 1-2' T x 2' W. Not just interesting but very useful too — looks nearly the same year round — sometimes a great thing. Evergreen.
