Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Beautiful perennial that provides the perfect nectar for butterflies and foliage for caterpillars (and other beneficial pollinators)! 3-4’ tall bolt upright stems massed in 2-3’ wide clumps are topped with luscious rose colored clusters of vanilla scented flowers midsummer to fall. Native to swampy areas, so it thrives in clay soil, bogs and pond side…but also grows well in well-drained soil with average garden conditions, as long as it is in full sun, it seems easy and happy! Cool seed pods. Deer rest. Tap root, so once established, leave it!
The species in this genus arose as a result of an evolutionary arms race with different butterfly species who drove the milkweeds to develop increasingly toxic poisons in their milky sap to fend off the butterfly's ravenous caterpillars. So leave the chewing to the Monarchs! Asclepias incarnata 'Cinderella' has upright branching stems with oblong leaves topped with dense clusters of small rose pink and white vanilla-scented flowers which attract butterflies. Good in moist, wet and average soils. Deer resistant.
This easily grown floriferous cultivar hosts large, compact rosy pink umbels packed with petite white flowers set in dark red bracts. Sprouting from a sizable taproot, the late-to-emerge noninvasive clump of numerous, erect branching stems celebrates vibrant-looking, vanilla-scented blooms. Selected from the wild species that inhabits Missouri's swamps and wet meadows, 'Cinderella' thrives surprisingly well in drier sites and can escort Baptisia 'Solar Flare' or ornamental grasses like Molinia or Panicum.
Showy & long-lasting clusters of intriguing pink flowers on easily-cut 3' stems will make this new "almost-native" popular for butterfly gardens, stream side/meadow gardens, & for the pretty bouquet on the table. Sun/Med-Wet
