The giant green leaves are held upright by strong purple stalks. This is truly an architectural specimen plant for any garden. 'Portora' needs to have rich moist organic soil for optimal growth. A thick layer of winter mulch helps to prevent rot in cold wet soils.
Impressive in a large pot, or as a focal point in the garden, Elephant Ear 'Portora' has broad, wavy-edged leaves that are held high on strong vertical stems. It grows quickly into a 5-6' tall plant during the first season. The stems are upright so it makes an ideal 'thriller" in a mixed container with flowering plants growing around its base. Plant in rich, moist soil for optimum growth.
Alocasia Portora is an incredible hybrid by LariAnn Garner between Portei X Odora. This plant isa must for people who want to grow lager than life plants. This uncomplicated hybrid grows to a huge size fast and has upright sturdy leaves. Each year I removed the foliage and stored the tuber or trunks inside, we then set it back out each season here in zone 6 Kentucky were they grow to a monstrous size. Foliage: Huge green, rippled leaves Flowers: Green hooded Height: 10 to 12 feet
a.k.a Alocasia x 'Portadora'.
