Agave bracteosa var. "Mateo", a captivating succulent, is a distinctive variant of the Agave bracteosa species. This slow-growing perennial boasts gracefully arching, narrow leaves, forming a visually striking rosette. Its pale blue-green foliage is accentuated by finely toothed margins and a delicate, flexible texture, setting it apart from its more rigid relatives. Native to Mexico, particularly in the Mateo area, it thrives in arid environments and well-drained soil. Agave bracteosa var. Mateo is admired for its ornamental appeal, making it an ideal choice for xeriscaping and succulent gardens. Its infrequent flowering adds to its longevity, making it a remarkable addition to arid landscapes.
Upright agave, most likely a hybrid between A. bracteosa and A. lophantha, to 2' tall and wide. Excellent for a small container, with medium-green leaves that have pale stripe down the center of each leaf and a radiating form. Full to part sun in well-drained soil. Drought tolerant in coastal gardens. Frost hardy to USDA zone 8, possibly lower.
