Agapanthus 'Back in Black' is a hardy lily-of-the-Nile with rich green foliage, black stems, black buds, and dark purple-blue flowers followed by attractive black seed pods. Sounds luscious, doesn't it? Mulch each winter with fallen leaves.
Dark green 2' tall flower scapes ascend from strappy dark green foliage. Darkest buds bloom into dark blue-purple pendulous umbels, mid- to late summer. Agapanthus come from South Africa from the Cape of Good Hope to the "great, grey-green, greasy Limpopo river..." (Kipling, The Just So Stories)
