Large upright-growing evergreen shrubs with superb pendulous flowers in late spring. These are tubular in shape and quite variable in color, ranging from red, plum-crimson, salmon-pink, pink, yellow-orange and apricot to various bicolor and even tricolor combinations. This selected clone has large, glaucous red flowers and bright blue-green foliage.

This distinctive species is from wild collected seed near Tibet and is noted for its narrow upright form and waxen tubular flowers usually orange to red. These were not seen in flower but the chances of being disappointed in the flowers are as remote as the region they were collected.
Foliage and flowers are both aromatic. Leaves to about 3½ x 1¾" are elliptic or oblanceolate, smooth on top and have a rather metallic gray green cast. The underside is scaly bluish green to reddish brown. Tubular shaped flowers, up to 2" long are typically dark cinnabar red. (RN, rn, Cinnabarina)
