A rare and unusual species with attractively brown-scaly foliage and stunning deep red-purple flowers in late spring. A rarely offered alpine species from the high Himalaya. Excellent drainage required.
Named after Lt. Col. F. M. Gailey, 1882 - 1967, a traveller in Tibet. It has rather small, dark green, shinny leaves and shallow saucer shaped red-purple to deep purple flowers. Upright and open growth habit. Is is found in S.E. Tibet, Bhutan, 8,000 to 13,000ft. (RN, rn, Baileya)
