Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Galtonia viridiflora looks like a green version of the better-known G. candicans with elegant late season spikes of lightly scented, pendulous, downward-facing, bell-shaped, snowdrop-like flowers. Cut flowers will last 10-14 days. This species has now been moved into Ornithogalum which means 'bird's milk'. Although the root words are from Greek, "bird's milk" was a phrase frequently used by the Romans to indicate something wonderful which this bulb certainly is. Native to South Africa but widely adaptable.
Actually my favorite species in the genus. This is a smaller plant than the above, only growing 12-18" tall. Its pendulous flowers are a soft olive green color.
Summer Hyacinth, as Galtonioa is commonly known is a bsummer blooming bulb from South Africa with 2-3' stems bearing nodding pale lime bells. It has wintered over for us in zone 6 in well drained spot. We have availalble a limited number of 2 year old plants that are blooming size.
Greenish white pendent bells in summer on 2 ft. spikes. South Africa.
Stalks of light green flowers. Oregon Native.
