Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Chilean heather is a tough shrub that adapts to most gardens situations, including ones with Deer. The sprays of Violet flowers last for weeks and are a delight for Hummingbirds.
"Quite spectacular, there's nothing like it" (GS Thomas); this 4-6' shrub has heath or tamarisk-like sprays (?redolent of beeswax?) which are transformed in early summer by masses of small lavender flowers. S/M/GDr
Rare jewel from the Andes, this is one of the easiest of the genus to grow. An evergreen subshrub, an architectural mound of upright branches cloaked by tiny silver green scale-like leaves, grows to about 18” tall, slowly expanding 24-36” wide. Charming honey scented, tubular violet lavender blossoms put on a show in June and July. Requires perfect drainage, enjoys poor lean soils, some summer water, sun (some shade in hot climates). Rock garden darling!
A strange little Andean solanaceous plant that masquerades as a Heather, stumping all but the best botanists. Violacaea is also known a Combers Variety supposedly from Combers collections in Southern Chile many years ago and hardier than the species. Upright branches of scaly silvery gray foliage and tubular lavender flowers, the species can reach 2 m in habitat but Violacaea seems to be considerably shorter.
This Chilean evergreen shrub looks for all the world like a tall heather, but its tubular lavender flowers give it away as a tomato relation instead, an upright, multistemmed shrub, to 4-6 ft with tiny, needle-like leaves ranged along the stem. Unusual especially when covered with tiny, lavender tubes. Summer blooming in full to part sun with normal water. Cold hardy to USDA zone 8.
Heath like sprays of long lasting tubular lavender blooms in summer. Evergreen shrub 4' x 4' from Chile.
Upright growth with lavender-mauve flowers.
