Zn 4. Sword shaped yellow and green leaves
Amazing, variegated yucca, clumping to 3 ft, with gold-centered green leaves, the gold brightening in summer??s light. And, true to the species name, the foliage is dressed up with curly white filaments. White flowers in spring on 6 ft stalks. Sun, well-drained soil, and occasional deep summer water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.
Rosettes of spiky, strap-like leaves with gold centres are often flushed with pink in cold weather. As per the species name the leaf margins have long filamentous curly white threads. In summer Adam's needle will often, but not always, form a 4-6 foot tall candelabra of creamy white, waxy, bell shaped flowers. Tolerant of poor, sandy soils and part shade though full sun is best.
Touted as one of the most attractive variegated Yuccas available, this Japanese cultivar's stiff spiky foliage comprises a mesmerizing close set, evergreen rosette. Achieving an added luster when long, curly white margin fibers seem to capture the moonlight, each spine-tipped leaf is etched by celadon green margins and a bold, creamy gold central stripe, which becomes brighter in mid summer. 'Color Guard's imposing silhouette can stand alone, be juxtaposed with Plectranthus 'Longwood Silver's soft felted foliage or be planted en masse. Hardy to zone 5.
Yucca Filamentosa 'Color Guard' (Adam’s Needle): This dramatic architectural plant is one of the most beautiful variegated yuccas on the market. Its sword-shaped leaves bear bold central stripes of bright canary-yellow against a rich celadon edge. In cool weather, margins are tinged pink, and the entire yellow stripe turns rose-colored on many of the leaves, lasting through early spring. Plants grow to 2' wide and nearly as tall. Branched clusters of nodding, creamy-white bells open in mid-summer on stout stems that reach 6' tall.
Full Sun to Part Shade. Outdoor. White Flowers.

We fell in love with this Yucca after observing how much it provides dramatic winter interest! . This superior clone has creamy yellow centered sword-shaped leaves edged in deep green all year round. Its winter color becomes even more exciting when the cream coloring takes on warm coral tones. As a bonus every few years a 4' spike of creamy white fragrant lily blossoms in early summer. Clumps of foliage grow 2' tall and freely produce offsets which can be separated for more plants. Beloved by butterflies and hummingbirds too!
Love the texture on this colorful yucca, but you should see it in the winter. In addition to the yellow and greens, each swordlike leaf is edged with mauve. VERY cool! Since it is a native and grows in the shade, this is a great way to bring colorful highlights into the shade!

This yucca has a broad yellow center to the leaf. The margin is dark green so the foliage effect is overall golden from a distance. This easy grower is hardy in well drained full sun.
