The bright-red spring flowers of this arching 5' shrub retain their red color as they slowly fade (rather than turning purple) and it may re-bloom; developed at Iowa State University, thus extra hardy. S/M
Red Prince Weigela is a compact mounding shrub with rich red flowers against dark green leaves. Blooms late spring through summer. This is a great addition in your landscape. Red Prince Weigela is beautiful as a border shrub. One of the darkest red blooming Weigela that we sell.
A super fast growing shrub, 'Red Prince' Weigela produces deep red blooms in late spring and early summer. The flowers are very similar to those of Azaleas but Weigela are often larger plants and bloom more heavily. Weigela are also far less fussy than Azaleas and are a good alternative for low maintenance gardens.
Weigela look their best when they are pruned young. If left alone they will grow fairly large, up to five or six feet tall, but can also be kept compact as short as three feet in height with summer pruning. Weigela bloom mostly on old wood but will produce some flowers all year long on new wood.

This weigela has the richest red flowers imaginable. W. 'Red Prince' has dark green leaves and in late April the red flowers practically glow. Too bad this plant doesn't bloom at Christmas.
