3 long seasons of beauty are enjoyed by this non-climbing 3' mounder: new foliage which emerges purple (trimming induces continued purple) and long clusters of tiny fragrant white mid-summer flowers followed by fluffy seeds. S-PSh/M
This uncommon clematis is a non-climbing clump former that is grown primarily for its beautiful leaves and stems which are at first rich burgundy gradually maturing to a grey-green. The flowers are white, vanilla-scented and quite small but appear in nice clusters by the hundreds. This is a good clematis to grow in the perennial border up through other perennials or shrubs. Cut back after blooming for a new flush of burgundy foliage.
The new grow emerges purple, greening up as the season progresses. To keep the purple color and to avoid having to stake the plant, simply trim the whole plant down. Easy to grow in most soils and drought tolerant.
Blooms mid spring-early summer, sprays of white. Dark purple foliage, fades a bit as the season warms. Herbaceous perennial non-vining clematis. Zone 3-9. GDN, part shade, sun, moist, humus rich
Beautiful perennial with rich purple leaves that mature to a dusky green down in the canopy. Starry white flowers in summer.
Fragrant, lacy, white flowers in May-July, followed by fluffy, silvery seed heads. Maroon-ish gray foliage. Prefers alkaline, moist soil in sun. A NON-CLIMBING clematis. Long-lived. Keep mulch away from stems. FRAGRANT! Can be trained to a support if desired

One of the gems of the genus and a non-viner. This makes a dense clump of upright herbaceous stems (dies to ground in winter) which in new growth are richly colored in chocolatey purple. Terminal clusters of small white flowers. Check out our big plant in the sunny border.
Bronze-purple new leaves emerge in spring and age to green below abundant billowy panicles of cascading white flowers. Let it sprawl - another form for the garden! (Non-vining.)
Upright growing, purple new growth with large panicles of white flowers.
