Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the more handsome of the evergreen oaks, this one native to Japan and Asia, with bronze new growth maturing to glossy green leaves that end in a curious drip tip. Grows at a medium rate to 30 ft tall as an upright and spreading specimen. Best full to part sun with regular summer water but tolerates summer drought once established. Makes an excellent street tree or container plant. Cold hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
Native throughout a large area in Asia, the Bamboo Oak is one of the most unusual oak species and features evergreen leaves that are long and narrow with a pointed tip like a bamboo leaf. Trees develop a dense canopy with long twisting branches and the new growth is bright red, making this one of the only Oak species with any leaf color. The species myrsinifolia refers to a Myrtle tree which this species is also often said to resemble.
Hardy to 0-10 °F, this is the most cold tolerant of any evergreen oak. With its slender shiny leaves and medium size (to 40 ft. normally) it has a place in many landscapes.
Beautiful, densely-branched medium-sized tree of compact habit; the smooth, dark-green leaves are purple-red when unfolding. Sun/Med
