Sophora prostrata ‘Little Baby’, sometimes called Dwarf Kowhai, is an upright, evergreen shrub with wiry, zigzagging branches carrying tiny, adorable leaflets. This New Zealand native bears yellow-orange, beaked pea flowers in fall. You heard that right! This shrub is actually is the pea family. Dwarf Kowhai prefers a well-drained, evenly moist soil that is not waterlogged. Reduce watering in winter. The shrub will look best in full sun, either on a southward or westward facing side of the house. ‘Little Baby’ is not tolerant of freezing temperatures, and may need to be overwintered in a frost-free spot.
