Grandma had these right next to the cobweb leeks and the hens n chicks! Low growers and cascaders, these smallish sedums (6-12") have fat little 'bean' shaped leaves. They have holiday colors of red, yellow and green in varying degrees. Ours have seen 20 degrees or less in exposed pots with no damage. Plant in well drained soil…pots, rock gardens, wall niches, troughs…. place out in full sun and don't overwater. We were surprised they sailed thru winters here in the great PNW! Fun plants..kids love them (not edible!).
A silly common name for this colorful and useful filler plant for succulent gardens, containers, vertical gardens and wreaths. Small chubby cylindrical medium green leaves take on orange red tones when temperatures are on the cool side. Stays under 2-4" tall and spreads….in fact any little leaf that drops will root in and become an new plantlet.
Red tinged jelly bean shaped foliage. Sedum rubrotinctum, or Porks and Beans, is a popular and quirky Stonecrop loved for its unique form and changing color. This sweet groundcover, with its chubby, succulent leaves turns cherry-red in sun or drought and apple-green when over-watered or shaded. It produces yellow flower clusters in summer. Sedums grow best in well-drained gravelly soil that is not wet in winter. Drought tolerant. Requires little water once established. This plant can also be used indoors and is super happy as a houseplant!
Light Shade to Shade. Indoor/ Outdoor (Patio). Reddish Yellow Flowers.

A trailing Mexican sedum, sometimes called Donkey tail for the stems that dangle as much as a foot. A succulent perennial, to 6-8" tall, with little leaves that become become rusty and rosy as they grow. Best in sun to light shade and well-drained soil with little summer water once established. Frost hardy to 25F, mid USDA zone 9, and lovely trailing over the sides of pots that can be moved indoors to a bright window where temperatures drop below.
