Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This double flower form tuberose, with a circle of petals tucked inside another circle, is known as "The Pearl". The pure white waxy blooms open from pink tipped buds and produce a rich, spicy, heavy scent, especially prevalent in the evening. Excellent for cutting. Site in full sun for the strongest performance.

Just as blissfully fragrant as 'Mexican Single', 'Pearl' is a bit shorter, later-blooming, and double, with pale pink buds that open into flowers like tiny gardenias. Discovered by NY nurseryman John Henderson in 1870, it became a Victorian favorite, often sold under the name 'Excelsior'. Hardy in zones 8-11, elsewhere it's handled like glads (in the winter, just throw the pot in the basement). We send big bulbs, sure to bloom!
These Mexican natives are a wonderful addition to any summer garden. They grow best with warmth and heat. Winter hardy in zone 7+. Their fragrance is famous for perfumes. They make a wonderful, long lasting cut flower! Blooming Size 10+ cm around Bulbs
Wonderfully fragrant bulb from Mexico loving dappled shade to sun and all the heat you can give it. Thought by many to have been selected originally by the Mayans back before ... the 1960s, but definitely discovered in the 1870s by nurseryman John Hendserson. Clusters of deliciously fragrant, creamy white, double flowers appear in late summer to autumn on 2-3' stalks, opening from pink-blushed buds. Given hot sun and ample fertilizer and summer moisture, these are cold hardy in USDA zone 7. Otherwise great as pot plants -- a necessity once one has become addicted to the fragrance. Can be allowed to dry in winter.
