Loads of small but incredibly fragrant white flowers in fall make this a wonderful addition to any garden. Glossy foliage is variable; the juvenile leaves are holly-like and spiny becoming entire on older specimens. This attractive shrub is dense and compact, slowly reaching 8-12'; a fine specimen or hedge and one of the hardiest cultivars. Plant this where you can really enjoy its fragrance! S-PSh/M
Elegant, arching, evergreen shrub, slow growing to 5' tall and 6' wide for part to full shade. Foliage is splashed with pink and cream and flushes burgundy in winter. Very at home in the woodland with drooping clusters of white flowers (nice in arrangements) in spring that age to dark blue berries. Rich, well-drained soil and regular dry season water.
One of the hardiest clones with extremely glossy solid green foliage heavily spined at the leaf margins; it is supposed to be compact however Dirr reports it can reach 15'.
A handsome plant and a terrific screen or hedge, this evergreen shrub, to 8 ft tall and 5 ft wide, has spiny, holly-like leaves, shiny dark green and very densely held. Flowers appear in autumn, their tiny whiteness hidden amongst the leaves but the sweet fragrance easily noticed. Prefers sun to part shade in well-drained soil with summer water but easily adapts to many soils. Also can be pruned to maintain a smaller size. Frost hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
