Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This compact 5-7' shrub is a joy in spring with its brilliant dark-red flower buds which persist for several weeks before opening to intoxicatingly fragrant and showy white and pink flowers. The deep-green mildew-resistant foliage looks great all summer long on this garden treasure! This makes a wonderful specimen or hedge plant. S/M
An ornamental prodigy from Dr. Donald Egolf's esteemed breeding program, 'Mohawk's allure spans several seasons. Its first offering begins in spring when glistening dark red flower buds appear, followed by the spicy gala of clove-scented snowball-like blooms amid polished foliage, and continues through its brilliant orange-red autumn finale. Anticipation builds as clustered shiny buds wait a few weeks to open, revealing enticing, rouge-backed, waxy white flowers. Amenable to varied conditions, yet flourishing in moderately moist well drained soil, this compact deciduous shrub hosts disease resistant dark green leaves, and can be cast as a star specimen, planted en masse or transformed into a picturesque backdrop.
Pink buds, fragrant white flowers spring. Glossy foliage turns red-yellow fall, Semi-evergreen Zones 5-8.
Introduced by the National Arboretum and was the The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medal Plant Award, 1993 With glossy, dark red flower buds which are gorgeous for weeks in and of themselves, in late April, they burst open to reveal waxy white blooms with a strong, spicy, clove like fragrance that's just yummy. The dark green leaves are deciduous but turn a brilliant orange-red in Fall. Resistant to bacterial leaf spot and powdery mildew just top off the wonderful features. It is a backcross of V. x burkwoodii to V. carlesii.
