Moderately creeping, this dense, crassifoliate evergreen vine or ground cover mat from the woods of China has much potential yet to be realized. Small, round, dark green, glossy leaves are studded with exquisite, unscented, small, butter-yellow and orange-pink flowers in spring resulting in blue-black berries in autumn and winter. A spiller for a pot, a shade ground cover, or a finely textured climber that adheres to crack and crevice: adorable (and that's the first time I've ever used that word, so you know I mean it). Minimum temperature: 0°F
An amazing ground cover honeysuckle. This evergreen runner is a non-invasive sub-shrubby vine that forms a completely prostrate mat of tiny, rounded and glossy leaves in pairs. The pink honeysuckle flowers emerge in early summer and quickly shift to a deep golden yellow. In foliage and habit, it is strongly reminiscent of Mitchella repens . From my collection in the Sino-Himalaya. Easy in sun or shade and perfect under rhododendrons and other shrubs, in a rockery or in a hanging basket.
Steve Hootman from the Rhododendron Species Foundation collected this in China; it forms a dense prostrate evergreen mat of tiny round dark green fleshy leaves which is smothered in masses of white flowers that age golden and are followed by blue berries. Its very different from any other Lonicera we have seen and has a high cute quotient.
A Steve Hootman collection from China of this quite unique creeping Honeysuckle. This is a Kinnik-Kinnik alternative making a mat of rounding green leaves turning rich purple/red/bronze tones in winter. Honest to Gods small light yellow Honeysuckle flowers. Very cool.
A teensy weensy goundcovering honeysuckle….it’s about time. This Asian, woodland, evergreen rarely grows more than 3” in height, a single plant spreading to about 3' in as many years. Foliage is dense, with small, shiny, rounded leaves, thick and succulent as the crassifolia name implies. A profusion of cream colored flowers with hints of pink appear in late spring to early summer leading to bluish black berries for autumn and beyond. Great small-scale groundcover for the woodland or spiller for container. Likes consistent moisture and shade to half sun. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7.
